GMS has developed an Internal Audit Review (IAR) Programme, for use in schools that are in or approaching financial difficulty; or have poor financial systems and processes. 

The IAR Programme helps a school to improve its internal systems and processes, by providing a thorough analysis of problem areas and suggestions as to how they can be addressed.

The objective of the programme is to identify and address these problem areas early, in order to prevent Ministry intervention at a later date.

The IAR Programme addresses problems in the following areas:

–         internal controls

–         budgeting and planning processes

–         financial reporting and monitoring

–         international student programme

–         waste and probity

–         going concern

The programme offers support and advice based on a thorough analysis of existing processes, information provided by the school, and discussions with key personnel.  A final report with recommendations is presented to the Board, with follow-up in six months.
